Notes: The inaugural Australia Cup was first staged in November and December of 1962. Orchestrated through sponsors W.D. & H.O. Wills and Ampol Petroleum the series offered £5,000 in prizemoney - the richest football tournament ever staged in Australia to that point. The number of teams invited to compete was 16, composed of four clubs from Sydney and Melbourne, three from South Australia and Queensland and two from Newcastle (Northern New South Wales). The teams representing Northern NSW and Queensland all made an exit in the first round but Juventus from Adelaide surprised when they thrashed Hakoah in Sydney and went onto finish third via the Consolation Final. It would be an all Sydney final with Yugal defeating Budapest South Sydney in an all New South Wales final at Wentworth Park. Curiously the total number of spectators for the series totalled over 100,000.
