Given the other results Australia really only had top spot to worry about and had they lost they would have made it in as one of the best 2nd placegetters. But that's not how things are done anymore and Jordan's poor record on the road continued, though well done on the consolation goal at the end which nobody really saw coming. Least of all Mat Ryan. The other notable outcome of the match was the horrendous tackle from behind that Robbie Kruse suffered in this match, having only just been rehabilitated from a similar issue a year ago. Yousef saw yellow, should have been red. This was an World Cup Qualifying match.

After initially seeking to play the away leg first the Thai football association confirmed that this match would go ahead as scheduled despite the year of mourning due to the death of the former King some weeks prior. While confirming the match would proceed a number of "requests" were made.
  • Clothing for spectators shall be in polite manner with suggested colours such as white, black, gray and preferably with no designs on them.
  • Equipment such as drums, trumpets, flags, megaphones, whistles, cheering sticks and any other equipment will not be allowed to enter the stadium.
  • Spectators are not allowed to show any symbols
  • Banners will not be allowed to enter the stadium
  • Fan chants, along with any other activities that are considered joyful, are strictly prohibited both inside the stadium and surrounding areas.
Subsequently, on November 3, this was amended to "All supporters attending the above-mentioned match shall dress in polite manner as they see appropriate, use cheering equipment, show symbols and bring banners inside the stadium, sing cheering songs and appropriately conduct joyful activities both inside and surrounding areas of the stadium". Which sounds like pretty much the opposite of what was originally requested but is more in keeping with the occasion. Obviously the period of mourning and all it entails continues elsewhere. This was a World Cup Qualifying match.
