In November 1971 the Israeli national side arrived in Australia to play three friendly internationals. For the star studded Israelis this tour was seen as a warm-up for the 1972 Olympic games, while Australias players had been idle for two months since the end of the domestic competetion. The press justifiably had the Israelis as the overwhelming favourites for the series. Some sources credit the first Israeli goal to Borba.
