Quested, Wilfred (Len)
Date of Birth: 09-Jan-1925, Folkestone, England
Position : Wing-Half/Central Midfield

Arguably one of the greatest imports to ever play football in Australia. While stationed on H.M.S. Golden Hind in Sydney Harbour during the Second World War, Quested first tasted Sydney football as a member of the Golden Hind team in the 1945 season, playing alongside future English champions as Jack Aston and John Ball. Returning to England, Quested quickly established himself an illustrious career over 12 seasons with Fulham and Huddersfield, culminating in a call up to the England 'B' side. In 1957, Quested returned to Australia as an immigrant with his Australian born wife and was snapped up by the Auburn club in Sydneys inner west. Within 12 weeks of stepping off the boat, Quested had won the 1957 player of the year award and led his side to victory in the 1957 Federation Grand Final. Despite his declining years, Quested continued his career another few seasons representing Australia against the touring Hearts side in 1959. He continued his association with soccer after his playing retirement taking up a coaching position with Auburn. However, he prefered the juniors and it was in this capacity that he coached the likes of Robbie Slater and the Waugh twins at an early stage in their soccer careers.

Quill, Alf
Date of Birth:
Position: Inside Forward

One of the greatest players of his era 'Artie' Quill was an undisputed champion. Starting his career with the Pyrmont club, Quill moved to Wallsend in 1931 on the offer of work during the tough depression years. What Wallsend got, was a forward of exceptional ability as Quill's goalscoring feats shattered every record in the book. Over a period of 24 senior seasons he reportedly scored 868 goals in premiership and cup games. In his later years he proved a valuable tutor to the likes of Reg Date, Hedley Parkes and Jim Wilkinson, all of whom would go onto being Socceroos. Unfortunately Quill never got the international adulation he deserved, playing just 7 times for Australia. He did however go onto a coaching career with his beloved Wallsend that culminated in him also coaching tha national team in the 1950s.
