William 'Billy' James Acres - West Wallsend / Corrimal
Joined the AIF and 18th Battalion which was raised at Liverpool in New South Wales in March 1915 as part of the 5th Brigade.
The Battalion left Australia in early May, trained in Egypt from mid-June until mid-August, and on 22 August landed at ANZAC Cove.
Within a week he was wounded, a bullet striking his left jaw. He was evacuated back to England for treatment and returned to Australia to be discharged in Sept 1916.
Unfortunately Billy never returned to the field as the Bright's Disease / Nephritis he contracted whilst serving took his life in 1918.
