South Korea v Australia report by FFA

South Korea 3 - Australia 1

Australia's U-19 Women's team, the Westfield Young Matildas, lost 3-1 to Korea Republic overnight in the second of their friendly matches in Seoul.

Australia started the match slowly with a new look team and the Korea Republic were able to capitalise early with a goal to Ji Soyun in the 15th minute.

With Australia putting some pressure on themselves by giving the ball away too easily, they still managed to put together some creative chances and Australian keeper, Sian McLaren, made some good saves under pressure.

The second half saw Australia settle into their game and begin looking dangerous. Around the hour mark, the ball was cleared by the Korean Republic's defence and was picked up quickly by Jessica Seaman. Seaman sent the ball immediately back behind their defence for Samantha Kerr to collect and deliver a cross from the right to Ashleigh Sykes who finished well past the keeper for the equaliser.

Korea Republic took the lead again in the 68th minute from a direct free kick 25 metres in front of goal which beat Australia's wall and scraped inside the post.

A minute later the hosts extended their lead after a mis-kicked volley bobbled over Nicola Deiter's head and found the back of the net.

Australia pushed hard for the remainder of the second half and had some great attempts on goal but were consistently thwarted by Korea Republic's defence.

"We made 9 changes to our squad which caused a fair bit of disruption in the first half and we were easily outplayed," said Head Coach Alen Stajcic.

"The second half was outstanding. We dominated the game after leveling the scores but unfortunately two naive errors cost us the game.

"It is pleasing to see how we can match and dominate against top Asian sides like the Korean Republic. We just need the scoreboard to reflect our performance," Stajcic said.
