Australia v Cook Islands report by ASA

Cook Islands 0 - Australia 15

The Young Matildas now have a four-day break before their semifinal in the Oceania U19 Women's World Championship Qualifiers in Tonga after cruising to a 15-0 victory this evening over the Cook Islands.

Goalkeeper Luisa Marzotto made her youth international debut, but was more of a spectator in the one-sided affair which saw Australia up 8-0 at half-time. Katie Gill kicked off the goalfeast with a double inside the first ten minutes.

Catherine Cannuli top scored after bagging her second international four-goal haul, having first scored that many on debut against the senior Singapore team last August. Captain Kate McShea and Elissia Canham also each scored twice, from a total of nine Australian scorers.

Having guaranteed first position in Group B, the Young Matildas will face the second-placed team in Group A in Wednesday's semifinal. With Fiji up against frontrunners New Zealand, this is likely to be either Samoa or American Samoa who play each other tomorrow. Group B combatants Tonga and Cook Islands will fight it out for the remaining semifinal berth on Monday.
