Adelaide, the city of churces, played host to the first two group matches in Group D. I am getting a little tired so this will be a short review, again as I only saw highlights there are no initial line-ups to report, the Referee was Richard Lorenc from Australia. Weather conditions were perfect at the Hindmarsh stadium and the teams played impressive football with Norway pressuring early to put the skilful Mexicans on the backfoot. In their efforts Tommy Larsen was booked for a harsh tackle, Sanchez was unhurt. Chances at goal were at a premium for the first half but the 10000 fans were treated to entertaining football. Carlos Gonzales playing well for Mexico and Thomas Hafstad doing similarly for Norway. Most of the oppertunities for Mexico were snuffed out by the excellent goalkeeping by Thomas Myhre, this guy is one to watch. However in the 44th minute he could not hold onto Olalde's shot cleanly and gave a gift to 19 year old Vincente Nieto to have Mexico go into the break one goal to the good. Norway opened the second half with an almost chance, a taller forward would have had a clean shot at goal but Lars Olssen couldn't reach. Mexico had a good oppertunity to go further ahead through Jesus Olalde soon after, his jinking run followed by a shot just wide of the far upright. Luis Salazar also tried to beat the Norwegian keeper from out wide. Mexico were in the ascendancy despite the good work being done by the Norwegians. Mexico tried to make their No7 ranking in this level count and Ruben Gonzales brought out the best in Myhre with an attempt to beat him inside the his near post. With 68 minutes gone the Mexicans got the second which had threatened all along after earlier the Norwegians had their equaliser disallowed for a clear offside. Harald Loedemel, a substitute denied on that occasion A corner was flicked into the goal by Nieto, a defender and Myhre both trying to save the ball got in each others way to allow a 2-0. Norway deserved a goal but couldn't get one. To rub salt into the wound Mexico went 3-0 up with 8 minutes to go through Jesus Olalde who performed a wonderful forward flip to celebrate. Gabriel Garcia passed the ball to man-of-the-match Olalde who had only to tap the ball under the diving Myhre. Mexico 3 (V Nieto 44,68 J Olalde 82) - Norway 0
