ACTAS Canberra Eclipse celebrated an upset 3-1 win today in Canberra over Northern NSW Pride lifting them within touch of the pack, whilst all but ruining Pride's hopes of staying in contention for the upcoming grandfinal.

Without actually dominating proceedings, the difference today for Eclipse was they were finally able to put the ball in the back of the net.  Northern had their chances and kept Canberra keeper Amy Beattie quite busy.

Dior Foxhill was successful from the penalty spot in the 15th minute to give the home side the lead after being pushed inside the box.  Eclipse doubled their lead late in the half against the run of play, Cindy Doyle unleashing a spectacular dipping strike from 35 metres which sailed in just under the crossbar.

The intensity lifted five minutes after the break after Northern pulled a goal back, Tracy Baker allowed three shots before the third beat the keeper.  But with a minute to go, Canberra's Kim Channing put the game beyond doubt, beating the last defender to a long Beattie clearance upfield and coolly chipping the advancing goalie.

3 - 1 NSW Sapphires

Goal: Joanne Burgess 43
QAS Sting scored the second upset of the day, a solid 3-1 victory over NSW Sapphires, the frontrunners' first loss of the season.  The Sapphires still hold first position, but their long-held four-point lead has been slashed to just one.

The result also boosts the chances of a late Queensland charge into the grandfinal and rewarded today's good sized crowd at the magnificent Suncorp Stadium.

QAS stung their opponents early, taking the lead after seven minutes, Jamara Maza winning out in a scramble and stabbing home from close range.  NSW scored the equaliser two minutes before the break, Joanne Burgess successful with her strike.

The contest remained fairly even throughout, QAS keeper Claire Nichols making three fantastic saves to deny the favourites.  The home side then regained the lead in the 73rd minute, Olivia Hohnke nailing her drive from the edge of the box.  Sting's Lisa Dunne sealed the coveted victory in the dying stages with a clinical header to finish a cross from the left.

SASI Pirates
Wirkus, Vozzo, Winn, Morris, Alagich (Gawlik), Stocco, Spagnoletti (Baker), Prince, Morrison (May), Thomas (Matto), Halfpenny

1 - 0 Victoria Vision
Klerides, Davis, Barbieri, Wright, Oostdam, Walker, Digiammarco, Bisby, Hamilton (Saville), Terek, Fitzgerald (Kuralay)
SASI Pirates performed poorly against a determined Victoria Vision, but managed to still come away with the vital three points with a 1-0 win to now be within one point of the lead.

SASI's sole highlight in the scrappy, stop-start affair was their 14th minute goal, Natalie Thomas beating two defenders and finishing in great style from 15 metres.
