ACTAS Canberra Eclipse today celebrated their first win (and points) for the season, defeating Victoria Vision 4-2 to lift themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

After a surprisingly sluggish start to the season, last year's runners-up Canberra Eclipse were relieved to take the lead and quickly raced to a 3-goal lead.  Dior Foxhill opened the account, slotting home a cross from the left.  Four minutes later, a long ball into the area was missed by the keeper allowing Tal Karp to finish.   Cindy Doyle booted home a corner kick for Eclipse's third in the 40th minute.

But in the last few minutes before half-time, Victoria fought back to score two goals of their own.  Deborah Nichols was successful from the penalty spot after striker Leigh Terek was fouled in the box, and in stoppage time, Terek was on hand to finish from a goalmouth scramble.

Vision created several good chances to equalise in the second half but their shooting was just wide of the mark.  Eclipse defender Traci Bartlett then sealed the win with an unbelievable blast from half-way which found its way into goal.

Northern NSW Pride pulled ahead of their opponents into equal second place with today's 2-1 win over QAS Sting, coming from behind to snare the valuable points in a tight contest.

Home side Sting missed a couple of golden opportunities before taking the lead in the 36th minute, a partially cleared corner kick sent back in towards goal for Alicia Ferguson to drive past the keeper.

Then, five minutes into the second half, Northern's equaliser came by way of an own goal, QAS defender Sarah Garven sending the ball into her own net in her attempt to clear.   Boosted by the gift goal, Pride found their second wind and were rewarded with the winner in the 77th minute, substitute Rachael Alley's strike from 25 metres on the left chipping the keeper.

Venue : Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide
SASI Pirates
Trimboli, Vozzo, Winn, Gawlik, May (Ruotolo), Stocco, Spagnoletti, Thomas, Morrison (Baker), Moore (Prince), Matto (Halfpenny)
0 - 0 NSW Sapphires
Kell, Rockall, Starr, Tann-Darby, Garriock, Clarke, Cavanagh, Klessattel, Murray, Carney (Watson), Golebiowski
SASI Pirates and NSW Sapphires shared the points with a scoreless draw in today's (Sun) top of the table clash at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The result means frontrunners NSW Sapphires retain their four-point advantage over the Pirates, although they could well have stretched their lead after dominating the second half in Adelaide. SASI Pirates sneak into outright second position, a point ahead of the previous day's winners Northern NSW Pride.

In what was overall an entertaining clash, both sides created good chances in the first half, SASI's Kristy Moore unlucky not to score from a pair of one-on-one's with the keeper in the striker's first match back from injury. Sapphires' Julie Murray hit the crossbar after teammate Danielle Clarke was denied by a fine save by Pirates' keeper Leanne Trimboli.

Trimboli continued to prove the home side's saviour in the second half, making crucial saves to deny Alicia Cavanagh and Michelle Carney, whilst Kelly Golebiowski struck the woodwork. SASI were then thwarted in a last-minute burst to snatch the winner, Jessica Halfpenny ruled offside by the referee although the flag had stayed down.
