Reigning champions SASI Pirates retain the joint lead with NSW Sapphires after a solid 2-0 win over Victoria Vision today.

The better composed side on the ball, the Pirates were deserving of victory, although both goals were the result of defensive errors.  Vision fought hard in their first home game back in two seasons, and their physical strength sometimes caused danger for the smaller South Australians.

Pirates' captain Sharon Black keenly accepted the ball from a miskicked clearance and had no hesitation in thumping the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the 18-yard box.  Nine minutes later, teammate Natalie Thomas was on hand to smack the ball home after Vision's keeper had missed a long high ball from near half-way.

Vision almost made count three of their rarer chances on goal, Leigh Terek finding the woodwork once in each half, and Sarah Fitzgerald's blast denied by a Tracey Wheeler diving save.

NSW Sapphires came away with a tight 1-0 victory over QAS Sting today to retain their joint lead with SASI Pirates.

Kelly Golebiowski was the lone scorer from several good Sapphires opportunities, finishing a Neisha Klessattel cross with a solid header shortly before the break.

The Sting stepped up a gear and pressured Sapphires' defence in the second half, and were unlucky not to break through for the equaliser, Zoe Nolan and Lisa Dunne both hitting the post with a quarter-hour to go.

Goal: Amanda Butler 79
The revitalised Northern NSW Pride today recorded their first win in the twelve national league games played since the middle of last season with an emphatic 3-1 victory over ACTAS Canberra Eclipse.

Northern simply overpowered last year's runners-up.  Fired up from the start, Pride used their rampaging style to cause their opponent to stand off, allowing the home side to score three first-half goals.

A spectacular diving header from Matildas midfielder Alison Forman was followed by a solid drive from Amber Neilson, the youngster's second goal in as many games.  Sunni Hughes added Pride's third shortly before the break.

Eclipse managed a consolation goal towards the end of the second half, a fine strike from Amanda Butler.
