The Northern NSW Pride clash turned out to be the Kate Gill show, the in-form striker bagging all four goals in the 4-0 victory over rivals NSW Sapphires in Sydney, to take her season tally to a sensational ten goals from five matches.

Frontrunners Northern were far too strong for the depleted Sapphires, demonstrating exactly why they are leading the competition with a classy, dominating display. NSW tried hard but were never in the race and suffered further losses during the first half when Jo Burgess' questionable hamstring failed to last the distance and Renee Cartwright was stretchered off with a serious ankle injury.

Pride opened their account in the 12th minute when American Lindsey Jones, a constant threat down the left flank, lofted the ball for Gill who met it at pace and made no mistake with the shot. NSW were unlucky not to level soon after but Servet Uzunlar's volley flew just wide, for their best chance of the half.

Northern doubled their lead midway through the first stanza, Jones beating her marker and surging into the box before cutting the ball back for Gill lurking at the far post for the simple tap in.

After the break, the Sapphires came out with renewed vigour to claw their way back into the contest, but Pride had far too much experience and continued their domineering ways. NSW goalkeeper Dmitra Poulos performed well and saved a Joanne Peters freekick early after the restart, and went on to win several of the many one-on-one duels with Gill.

Gill scored her second hattrick for the season with five minutes remaining, slipping her shot under the keeper, and shortly after added her fourth with a well-struck volley from just inside the box.

In Canberra, Queensland Sting found themselves a goal behind at half-time but a four-goal haul in the second half gave them a comfortable 4-2 victory over Canberra Eclipse, the 'maroons' retaining their perfect win record.

Queensland had also dominated most of the rain-soaked first half but were unable to convert any of their chances, Sarah Walsh was unlucky in the 3rd minute, hitting the sidenetting, whilst a minute later, Canberra's pleas for a penalty went unheeded after claiming a foul on Kim Channing in the box.

Sting's Clare Polkinghorne, Walsh, Krystina Walker, Jessica Mitchell, and Kate McShea all failed to convert good chances, before Canberra came to life to take control of a good quarter-hour during which they were rewarded with the lead. Anna Doyle and Channing were unlucky not to score, before Stacey Stocco found the target in the 32nd minute, finishing a cross from wide left, low inside the far post.

But in the second half, Queensland lifted another notch and were unstoppable in attack, thumping home three goals in the space of seven minutes. Ten minutes after resumption, Walsh equalised, with a neat lob over the keeper who was out off her line. A minute later, Lana Harch scored from a speculative strike wide on the right, the ball finding its way over the line despite the keeper's attempt to rake the ball out from just inside the near post.

Walsh scored her second in the 62nd minute with a well-executed strike over the keeper. The game was put beyond doubt with Queensland's fourth goal, McShea with a cracking drive from 22 metres out. The intensity of the match fell away for much of the remaining time, until Canberra scored in stoppage time, a flurry of shots in a goalmouth scramble eventually seeing Channing tap home the loose ball for a final scoreline of 4-2.

Barbieri, Lamb, Digiammarco, Ruyter-Hooley, Koutrouvelis (Baxendale 46), Smith (Angelucci 10), McEvoy, Jackson, Fitzgerald, Terek, Pannella
Goal : Amy Jackson 65
In Adelaide, the points were shared in a 1-1 draw between Adelaide Sensation and Victoria Vision, a game where Adelaide missed a penalty, and Victoria played the entire second half a player short after the sending-off of defender Maika Ruyter-Hooley.

Victoria were the better team in the first half, creating some good chances on goal with an attack led by the lively Belinda Pannella. Her best chance of four in the first half-hour was when a mixup in defence allowed her to pounce on the ball but her effort was well saved by goalkeeper Luisa Marzotto.

Adelaide found a little more space in attack later in the half, and five minutes before the break, Sarah Baker was brought down in a one-on-one situation with the keeper beaten. After Ruyter-Hooley received her marching orders, Vicki Balomenos stepped up for the resultant penalty but her shot was saved by keeper Melissa Barbieri.

With the numerical advantage, the home side controlled much of the second period, and able to push more into attack. However, it was Victoria who snatched the lead in the 65th minute with their first goal of the season, a Leigh Terek freekick finished by Amy Jackson with a flicked backheader into goal. Balomenos was busiest in the Sensation attack, and after several chances, equalised late in the game. A good long ball from Baker set up the striker who struck from the edge of the box into the top corner of goal.

Vision's Pannella had a late chance to grab the three points but the shot was saved. The draw was a fair result from what was an entertaining encounter.
