Canberra Eclipse, after three consecutive draws, finally secured the three points with a 2-0 win on Sunday over Northern NSW Pride to breathe some life back into their grandfinal hopes.

Visitors Eclipse were evenly matched in the first half by Northern NSW Pride with play openly switching from end to end, but the two went in at the break with no movement on the scoreboard. Northern were unlucky not to score with several attempts striking the woodwork, but when Canberra claimed the lead fairly early into the second half, Northern's game fell away.

Midfielder Tal Karp gave Canberra the lead in the 57th minute, a stunning rocket from the edge of the 18-yard box hitting the target with great velocity. Gwen David sealed the win in the 71st minute by celebrating her first ever WNSL goal, poking the ball home from amongst a goalmouth scramble.

NSW Sapphires proved to be the better team on Saturday night in their crucial clash with rivals Queensland Sting in Brisbane, eager to avenge their last-minute opening round loss and put themselves more in the spotlight with the grandfinal date not far away. Sting were missing captain Kate McShea (suspension) and Karla Reuter was an added late withdrawal (injury).

Despite the pelting rain, the first half was played at a fast and furious pace, but produced few clear chances at either end for a very tight contest. NSW then were the ones who lifted in the second interval and made their opportunities count, although Sting too had a couple of good chances including one which hit the woodwork.

The Sapphires broke the deadlock nine minutes after the break after a defender lost the ball 25 metres out from goal, allowing midfielder Kylie Ledbrook to sail through and score. The Sapphires secured the three points in the 79th minute with the aid of the slippery conditions. Taryn Rockall's corner kick skidded off the wet ground and flew through a crowd of legs, also escaping the sights of the goalkeeper.

Goals : Sarah Fitzgerald 1, Jamara Maza 8, Selin Kuralay 25, Meagan Thornton 85
Victoria Vision produced their first win for the season in emphatic fashion, a 4-0 upset over Adelaide Sensation on Saturday. After only a solitary goal scored six matches ago, four Vision players today posted their name on the scoresheet.

Victoria, hungry for the ball, instantly put the favourites on the back foot with two goals within eight minutes. The underdogs closed down their opponent, combined well, and made full use of their chances in attack. Adelaide Sensation, missing the leadership of midfielder Cheryl Salisbury, were overrun by the more powerful visitors, especially in the first half.

Forcing a corner almost from the kickoff, Victoria set the tone inside the very first minute, Sarah Fitzgerald's shot taking an awkward bounce over the diving keeper. Their killer second goal followed soon after, Sarah Groenewald cutting in from the left and threading the ball to meet the run of Jamara Maza who slotted the ball home. Midway through the first half, Victoria scored a third when a pinpoint cross found Selin Kuralay in front to sidefoot into the back of the net.

Adelaide increased their possession in the second half but could not convert, Lisa De Vanna and Stacey Stocco out of touch in the shooting stakes. Victoria remained dangerous on the break and scored goal number four with five minutes remaining. Substitute Meagan Thornton, one-on-one with the keeper, chipped the ball which went in off the post for her first ever league goal.
