Canberra Eclipse had the half-time lead then controlled most of the second term but failed to go further ahead as Queensland wilted in the heat. Sting then made a late surge with five minutes to go, prompting Canberra coach Clive Mackillop to urge his team not to give it away again, referring to their Round 3 clash when a struggling Sting snatched a draw in the dying minutes.

In an evenly-fought first half with plenty of action at both ends, Eclipse striker Caitlin Munoz moved to the top of the scorer's chart shortly after the half-hour with her eighth goal for the season. The ball eluded the leap of four players in the goalmouth and fell invitingly at the feet of Munoz to slot home. Munoz missed an open chance shortly before the break, whilst Sting's best chance was squandered by Alicia Ferguson early in the piece.

A hungry Eclipse attack was off target on several later occasions, former Canberran keeper Amy Beattie also making some important saves for Queensland. A crucial point was then snatched two minutes into stoppage time by the 'maroons' to keep their chances alive when defender Pam Grant surged forward with the ball. Lana Harch finished the move, a low strike finding the mark under the diving keeper.   Eclipse fought straight back but Tal Karp went wide, and Danielle Hepperlin's effort was tipped over by Beattie.

Goals : Tara McMinn 8, Katie Gill 53, 85, Jenna Tristram 71
Northern NSW Pride's young side outgunned Adelaide Sensation with an attacking performance in Adelaide. Sensation, without key players central midfielder Cheryl Salisbury, injured goalkeeper Leanne Trimboli and defender Ann Marie Vozzo, were unable to stem the Northern tide after a 1-1 scoreline at half-time.

Tara McMinn opened the Northern account just eight minutes into the game, put through on goal and chipping the goalkeeper with a neat finish. Nine minutes later, Sensation equalised when Chichi May's freekick was flicked in by the head of Lia Augimeri. Northern were denied another goal before the break, Adelaide keeper Jordie Hinks making a fantastic double save against Hayley Crawford.

Soon after the restart, Pride reclaimed the lead, captain Amber Neilson's diagonal ball in the path of Katie Gill who made no mistake on goal. Sensation were then further set back when playmaker Stacey Stocco came off after a blow to the head. Midway through the half, Pride pulled ahead to 3-1 when a miscued Crawford strike was stuck away by Jenna Tristram, her first ever WNSL goal.

Four minutes later, Adelaide reduced the deficit to one, a flick on by Lisa De Vanna toe-poked into goal by Augimeri. Northern sealed the deserved win with five minutes remaining, Gill again beating the offside trap and slotting home.

Venue : Kingston Heath Soccer Complex, Melbourne
Victoria Vision
Barbieri, McEvoy, Romano (L Kapusta 80), Smith, Groenewald, Anstis, Bisby, Digiammarco, Humble (Koutrouvelis 65), Vardakas (Pacella 36), Kuralay (Terek 71)
0 - 2 NSW Sapphires
Kell, Collins (Davison 46), Warrener, Gilbert, Kimber, McCallum, Peters, Ledbrook (Blayney 81), Carney, Golebiowski, Cavanagh (Cannuli 79)
Goals : Kelly Golebiowski 8, Joanne Peters 70
In Melbourne, a dour battle ended with league favourites NSW Sapphires scoring a goal in each half over Victoria Vision for a 2-0 win. Not surprisingly, Vision, wanting to avoid a repeat of their 10-0 nightmare loss to NSW earlier this season, adopted a defensive tone to their tactics and effectively nullified the usually free-flowing Sapphires.

NSW took the early lead, Kelly Golebiowski joining teammate Alicia Cavanagh and Canberra's Caitlin Munoz at the top of the scorer's chart with her seventh goal for the season. Golebiowski gave the keeper no chance with a drive from 25 metres out.

NSW continued to keep the opposition backline busy but were unable to add to their tally until a questionable penalty was awarded in the 70th minute. Joanne Peters secured the win with a well-taken strike from the spot. Victoria's best chance came soon after, Katrina Smith's 10 metre shot well-saved by the keeper.
