Issue 12 (Apr 1996)
The product of many long years of frustration with the way the game is run
here in Australia. Every couple of years we are told that soccer in
Australia is about to enter an exciting new era. We (the fans) have been
hearing this for so long we just don't believe it anymore. So, what do you
do when you're fed up? Produce a fanzine!
The response so far has been excellent. There are obviously plenty of fans
who feel the same way we do, and the future of 'SU' seems assured. A bit
of an introduction is probably in order before we go any further...
Who runs this thing?
- Editor: Kevin Christopher
- Melbourne-based 33 year old male who played amateur soccer for nearly
twenty years before taking a break after deciding to start 'Studs Up'.
Regularly attends soccer matches at all levels, from Australian
international matches to under-age stuff. Basically just loves the game
and is sick of the sport being treated with ridicule by the mainstream
press, and with comptempt by some of the officials within the game.
- Assitant Editor: Harry Georgiadis
- Melbourne-based 25 year old male who still plays amateur soccer. For
more information, see above...
Both Kevin and Harry attended the National Soccer Summit in Melbourne in
May 1995 and were able to deliver a speech to the delegates, outlining
where the fans think the game should be heading.
How to obtain 'Studs Up'

it is anticipated that we will be selling it at NSL matches in the coming
season.

Subscription rates are AUD$16 for six issues (or $30 for 12 issues) which
includes postage to anywhere in Oz. Overseas readers will be dealt with on
an individual basis, but $4 (Aust.) will be enough to have the latest issue
air-mailed to your door. We will include subscription prices with that
issue. Australian readers wishing to obtain just the one issue should
send $3 only. All cheques / money orders should be made out to 'Studs Up'.
And what do you get for your cash? Well, it's hard to be objective, but
you get a complete run-down on what's happened over the preceding two
months in our 'Did that REALLY happen?' section, plus FULL match reports
of all matches played by the various Oz national teams. A list of what's
coming up in 'Look out for..' and relevant news items in our 'Bulletin
Board' section. Naturally there are a variety of contributors in both our
letters section and general articles, as well as sticking the boot in to
certain administators in 'Get the book out!'.
All that and more in a tidy little A5 package.
The response we have had from the administrators and the media has
generally been very positive. They all realise the need for a publication
such as 'SU', although they don't like it when they're mentioned...
Highlights of previous issues?
- Issue 1 (Dec 1994)
- 24 page inaugural issue where the editorial team felt the need to get
