At this stage it was planned that the A-League clubs Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory would enter the competition. However the FFA withdrew its permission for the clubs to play in the Mirabella Cup. As a result it was decided that for the Quarter-Finals the teams would be split into two groups of three and would play a round robin with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Semi-Finals.
