The Australian Soccer Federation decided to hold an Australian Representative Championship competition including every major soccer centre in the series. Northern New South Wales (Newcastle) was seperate to Sydney who were joined by Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania. The competition took place over two full seasons as staging the entire series required twenty matches (ten each year) with scheduling designed not to disrupt the local competitions.
