Rangers' skipper John Grieg won the toss and elected to run from the Randwick end with a little of the sun in his team's eyes.
1 min : A free kick for obstruction went against John Grieg, but Bobby McKean broke away soon for a dangerous run that finally ran hard up against the Australian defence.
3 min : Mc Kean showed his displeasure when linesman Graham Warne ruled that his dribbling run had put the ball out of play.
5 min : Colin Jackson's header from a left wing corner was brilliantly screwed off the line by Aussie left back Harry Williams.
11 min : Rangers' Graham Fyfe caught offside by a mile as Utjesenovic moved up.
12 min : Derek Johnstone in trouble for holding Ernie Campbell as he advance up the Australian left wing.
14 min : Alex Millar mops up and stops Australia's thrust up the middle.
15 min : Fyfe is penalised by referee Rampley for showing Australian right back Utjesenovic.
16 min : An indirect free kick for obstruction inside Rangers' box results in a corner for Australia.
17 min : Colin Stein blasts over the bar.
19 min : Parlane pulls the ball overhead across Asutralia's goal following a long throw by Quinton Young.
23 min : Doug Utjesenovic mishit his backpass to Reilly and Derek Parlane fired past the goal.
24 min : Immediately afterwards, Peter McCloy pushed away a ball speeding from Peter Ollerton's head, following a corner by Ray Richards.
26 min : Colin Stein belted at a ball which was neatly pushed away out of trouble by Terry Butler.
29 min : Harding in place after Butler, Campbell and Williams built up the pressure McCloy held the ball down low.
30 min : Richards missed a sitter for Australia. Bearing down on the left wing, he inexplicably hit the side netting.
32 min : Young and Fyfe away for Rangers. Fyfe's cross from the left was headed up by Harry Williams, who then blocked Colin Stein's shot.
33 min : Greig chopped down tiny Terry Butler, and recovery delays the plays.
37 min : McKean and McLean span the field but Williams holds the thrust.
38 min : Parlane scored from a header from McKean's cross. Williams tries to whip it off the line - without success. Rangers 1, Australia 0.
40 min : Ollerton fired one which McCloy parried, after Butler did not lead up.
42 min : Campbell beats Rangers' defence. The cross was nodded on by Ollerton but McCloy held the ball well.
SECOND HALF
3 min : A brilliant run by Ray Richards sees him reach the bye-line and cut the ball back to Doug tjesenovic, whose header was snapped up by the untroubled McCloy.
6 min : John Grieg fires the ball across Australia's goal, but there is no Scottish head there to meet it.
10 min : Campbell gives away a free kick for pushing Quinton Young.
11 min : Peter Ollerton comes right back and gave away an indirect free kick for barrelling wee Tommy McLean.
14 min : Campbell over the bar from Richards' throw which had been headed on by Mike Micevski, who had just taken over from Terry Butler.
22 min : A break-through by Parlane after Young had lobbed the ball ahead for him to run onto. Parlane scorers. Rangers 2, Australia 0.
23 min : Peter Ollerton headed past the post from Doug Utjesenovic's free kick.
28 min : Ollerton missed after Harding had sent Campbell away.
30 min : Micevski takes on Rangers' defence well, and then Harding blasts a shot that causes McCloy to drop anxiously to his knees to hold.
35 min : Graham Fyfe dribbled through, but finally had his run stopped by Australian 'keeper Jack Reilly.
37 min : Two-handed push by Colin Jackson on Campbell results in a penalty. McCloy palmed the ball out, and Harding followed on to slam the ball home. Rangers 2, Australia 1.
40 min : Parlane drives past goal as the Australian defence is caught on the turn.
41 min : Utjesenovic's cross from right wing was just missed by Harding right in front with Williams coming in.
