In 1964 the English club side Everton toured Australia playing two matches against the Australian national side. The Melbourne match marked the first time since 1959 that an Australian national team was allowed to play international opposition. Due to an international ban over the transfer of a number of European players Australia had been banned by FIFA since 1960.
