Jets v Sydney

A-League report by Robert Szomolnoki
Newcastle United Jets v Sydney FC

The current A-League champions the Newcastle Jets have sunk to last place on the A-League ladder after their home loss to Sydney FC. There was no Joel Griffiths, no Mark Milligan, no Jin-Hyung Song but there are no excuses for the poor defending in the two goals conceded by the Jets.

On 11 minutes the Jets take the lead Holland finds Jesic on the wing he crosses for the on running Wheelhouse who hits a low first time side footed shot into the net, 1-0 Jets, its Jobe's first ever A-league goal in his fourth season with the Jets.

It takes Sydney just four minutes to level, a Cole free kick is headed down by Aloisi to Fyfe who heads in a unguarded near post, its 1-1 and both sets of fans have been off their seats celebrating a goal.

On 18 minutes Thomson sets up Naidovski at the edge of the penalty area, Jason fierce shot has Bolton making a full length dive to save.

On 36 minutes Wheelhouse makes it to the byline his cross is met by Holland and he hooks over the cross bar from six meters out.

It finished level at the break in what has been an entertaining game.

The second half began with a Petta cross for Bridge but his header was straight at Covic.

Aloisi almost had a rare goal, from a Bolton goal kick Bridge heads on and its Aloisi who is first to the ball as he chips the out running Covic but the ball lands just over the cross bar.

On 62 minutes Corica has a double chance to score from a Brosque cross, he air swings and then Covic saves from point blank range, the Jets take the ball forward immediately and Elrich makes it to the byline, crosses for Hakansson but he misses the ball from in front of goal.

On 78 minutes Corcia beautifully makes a goal for Gan (who is completely unmarked) he blasts in from five meters, 2-1 Sydney, its 14 minutes of A-league action in the life of Brendon Gan and he has a A-League goal to his name (he played 9 minutes last week).

The dying minutes has the Jets throwing everyone forward and pumping crosses into the Sydney penalty area, but each cross is met by a blue shirt and there is no last minute leveller, unlike last week.
