The first shot on target falls to Bridge from outside the penalty area but its straight at Bajic.

Adelaide are looking more likely to score the first half with Sarkies and Djite looking dangerous up front. A Sarkies free kick finds the tall Cornthwaite in the penalty area but his header is wide of the target. Then Cassio breaks clear of his marker but his cross/shot is over the crossbar.

The Newcastle midfield simply can't hold the ball as Adelaide's men in the middle simply have too much pace and control. The entire first half is watched generally in stunned silence from the home crowd as the Jets whenever they do get possession give it away too easily.

The 26th minute has Sarkies let fly with a dipping 25m free kick but Covic saves.

The Jets are now dominating possession and Joel Griffiths races to the edge of the penalty where he tees up Wheelhouse who shots over the cross bar.
