Roar v Mariners

A-League report by Andrew Demack
Queensland Roar v Central Coast Mariners

Central Coast made it three from three against a Queensland team that again lacked the killing blow.

On a drizzly atypical Brisbane Spring Thursday night the Mariners crafted a 1-0 victory, their first in an A-Leage Season against Queensland, off the back of Matthew Trott's extraordinary game in goals.

Both sides lining up in a Diamond 4-4-2 with Farina opting to put Danny Titatto in the Defensive Midfield and Hyuk-Su Seo into Right back with the injury to Andrew Packer yesterday, after being injured for two months previously. Central Coast were also slightly under-strength with Dean Heffernan and Bradley Porter out with the Socceroos as well as Danny Vukovic with the Under 23's.

The first half saw a lot of hustle in the midfield but true opportunities were rather few and far between for both teams. Roar Brazilian import Marcino blundered a trio of attempts with power over accuracy, all three going over the bar.

The second half opened much the same as the first had finished but 10 minutes in Mariners found the break through. After winning a corner, Damien Brown played it just outside the box for Adam Kwasnik whose low shot snuck through the pack to find the back of the net.

The game complex changed dramatically with Roar throwing everything forward and the Mariners steadfast their defence. Queensland had ample chances, mostly coming from crosses which seems to be how Farina prefers them to attack, but Mile Jedinak was getting the better of Reinaldo every time.

Central Coast held their lead with Matthew Trott playing remarkably in goals pulling off save after save during a Queensland barrage in the last 10 minutes. Ante Milicic coming agonisingly close as well as Matthew McKay, who is still producing the best attempts on goal for the Roar.

The Mariners now holding on to the top of the table and Queensland still have no answers to their lack of finishing quality.
