Newcastle United Jets v Melbourne Victory

Table topping Melbourne Victory secured an impressive seventh win in a row in the A-League after defeating the last placed Newcastle Jets, Danny Allsop scored twice in the second half.

The Newcastle Jets must be wondering what they must do to win a game, they are still yet to register a win in 13 games since the arrival of coach Nick Theodorakopoulos before the A-League Pre-season Cup.

They dominated possession for long periods of the game and went close to scoring on many occasions during the game only to concede goals from sucker punches from the galloping Danny Allsopp, the match was played in front of the lowest A-League crowd to ever attend in Newcastle..

The Jets saw the return of Paul Okon and Stuart Musialik and the debut of New Zealand international midfielder Tim Brown.

Melbourne Victory commenced with Claudinho and had James Robinson come on off the bench - he had been a big success in the VPL scoring 13 goals in 19 games for Richmond.

The 5th minute saw Danny Allsopp dribble past two defenders and find himself with only the Goalkeeper to beat but from a narrow angle his fierce shot was saved by Ben Kennedy.

The game went from end to end with the Jets slightly ahead with ball possession.

In the 14th minute a Paul Okon throw has Bridge in the clear but his shot ends up in the hands of Michael Theoklitos.

Nick Carle is behind every Jets move and he set up Matt Thompson who races to the edge of the penalty area but his shot runs along the ground wide of the far upright, moments later a high ball is headed on by Milton Rodriguez into the path of Nick Carle who unleashes a wonderful strike from 30 meters but the ball flashes just past the upright.

On the half hour Fred is becoming more involved, first his pass finds Adrian Caceres his deflected cross goes over the cross bar.

Then Fred cuts into the penalty area taps the ball over Andrew Durrante's head regathers in the penalty area but his shot is just wide of the upright.

The first half proceeding end with the Newcastle Jets valiantly trying to get through the solid Melbourne Victory defence, Bridge is through on goal
