Marconi v Sharks

Round 6 report by deaser@ozemail.com.au
Marconi-Fairfield v Adelaide Sharks

Adelaide were right in this game right up till the minute the ref blew his whistle to start proceedings. Had Marconi not persisted in pumping high balls into the box in the first half, the score could have been much higher. Adelaide won everything in the air in their own box, without too much help from their keeper who seemed worried he might be penalised if he handled the ball. A good goal by Francis after three attempts (Frannie, Sean, Frannie) without sitting down made it 1 - 0 at half time.

Three more good goals in the second half, by Bugsy, Darren MacDonald and Kris Trajanovski, who may yet turn out to be the signing of the season, capped the scoring.

Surely, Farina must persist with Babic, the most out of luck striker in the league for another week. He may not have scored but he had a hand in three of the four goals - more than could be said for the Sharks keeper.

Man of the match - Darren MacDonald, who dominated in midfield - some of his combinations with Kim were a delight to watch.

Dare I predict so early in the season a championship for Marconi (and the start of a new "decade of dominance"). Some very astute recruitment plus a crop of very good young players coming through augur well for the "champion" club.
