Marconi v Souths

Round 4 report by Stuart Jones
Marconi-Fairfield v South Melbourne

South Melbourne were the better team no doubt. The only reason the first goal should have been disallowed was that everything stopped when the linesman raised his flag, expect for the ref and Marconi, who scored. The old adage about playing the whistle is never more in evidence. SMelb should not have lost their cool, although it was totally understandable. There was never any debate the two send offs were just that. In the end the ref probably got most things right but perhaps his manner was taken the wrong team and got Souths upset? Noone can say. I tend to agree with Ross that the ref did most things right, it was just that it was not fair on the by far and away best side I have seen this season, South Melbourne. Robbed? Probably but unfortunately that is football and even Angie agreed with that after the game. Every coach, player and fan must feel for Angie after that game but they are all good enough to put it out of their minds and go on to try and defend their crown. They should be in the grand final this time around if there first half last night is anything to go by. Sometimes things go for you, other times they dont, its just that I have never seen so many things go wrong for one side as I did last night, whether the ref was right or not.
