Knights v Carlton

Round 20 Match report by David Arnold
Melbourne Knights v Carlton

Today's big issue was how many Carlton supporters would be at the ground. Short answer is about 100 - divvied into 2 groups, one in GS and one in terrace.

But before crowd counting I was Croatia checking in the Croatian Sports Centre. Did you know you can learn the words to the Croat Anthem, view the great Leader (Tudjman) and the Ironman (Josip Broz Tito)? All at the Croatian Sports Centre! It is beneath me why this place has never really caught on.

When you consider the Ring road and the Western Highway are only a few ks from Somers st, it really baffles.

Carlton continue to make changes to their team. David Cervinksi in, Vlahos back upfront, Colosimo in midfield. Atkinson played far left in place of the still injured Stergi.

I'd just like to confirm that Fraud in Oz footie should be made a compulsory subject in any undergraduate accounting course. Viduka, Simunic, Spiteri, Tiatto... Monies from that lot should have seen the Knights through to next century. Instead the knobs have a crap team still playing at the Somers street chemical complex.

The big shock was not Carlton scoring first, rather it was scoring inside the 1st 10 minutes. corner sent over, knocked down where the Knobs failed to clear. Jonesy lashed it in.

The knobs quickly replied, but it came from us farting near the corner. Antho? comes lumbering across to save the day but only manages to take out a Knobhead, self-nominating for an Oscar. Someone scored from the spot.

Even more astonishingly, we reply immediately . Bresciano ignores my screams to play Atkinson inside, waits for Jonesy. The cross is of salivating quality, the sort of cross should striker fail to convert, it is perfectly legal to murder him. Vlahos does not make me jump the fence.

Colosimo goes back, Roly goes out left, Atkinson moves in. Roly? Maybe it was the utter crapness of the Knights midfield. Stabber is a midfielder, not a stopper.

In the second, Stabber is reciept of that classic Melbourne 1990s hit, "Stabber is a wanker". He takes it in good grace.

Antho makes up for his penalty with a Colosimo-quality run wide, then inside. Pulls the trigger, then runs on and puts away the rebound. Antho! I cannot possibly imagine Al Hunter doing this. Piss off back to Brisbane Al, good riddance.

The Knights make it interesting when Deano goes for the cross into the sun. Stabber throws himself forward and neatly clotheslines him. Ball in net, but did Deano have it? Roly again?

David Cervinksi, who has never convinced me, almost ties the game with a shocking backpass that is greatly leaped upon. Deano is just that bit quicker.

Marco Bresciano, having his best game yet, had two quality chances to put it away. Lapansky and Markovksi setting him through with keeper to beat, but the ball bounces as he takes his shot. With his speed, he really should go wide and cut it in. The 2nd effort came from a dribble and thunderbolt onto the bar.

The finale is courtesy of a huge Colosimo punt that Markovski shepherds upwards before placing it perfectly.

MOM was Antho. Deano made some great saves, Roly was as ever steady and Jonesy was all in it, but Antho had a great game. But all in all, a great team peformance, best yet. Just when I was beginning to worry about our finals chances...

So the road specialists do it yet again. Roll on Olympic Park? Shit on Optus Oval?

Next game against Marconi. Hopefully we can prove Matic is shit away from Adelaide.
