Playoff Match report by Lance Librandi
Adelaide City v Marconi-Fairfield

WWWWWOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just returned from witnessing the Zebras' standout performance of the season here at Norwood Oval.

[Regular time scorers were Mennillo, an own goal, Brooks.....] and a headed goal from a John Gibson corner, about 8 minutes into sudden-death extra-time. In the delirium of the moment, we arent even sure who put it away (think it was sub Musitano)....but WHO CARES!!!!!

Sensational game with Adelaide City dominating 95% of the play, the Marconi side at sixes and sevens, looking somewhat lost against the Zebra tidal wave. Outstanding performances by Angie Costanzo and Dino Mennillo who played out of their skins, and terrific defensive line with the great man Milan Ivanovic launching several attacks.

City had many many chances to secure the match by about 4 more goals but Catlin had a few good moments. Marconi defense was second rate, and when forced to attack after the 3rd goal evened the aggregate, they left holes that one could drive a truck through. Incredibly, their best chance came 5 minutes into sudden-death, with Babic alone with only Petkovic to beat and seal the result, but the form keeper ran off his line and dived at his feet to parry. Then the header.....and incredible emotion as the crowd swarmed the field to chair off their heroes. And yes, I ran onto the field like a kid too....was the best game I've seen the boys play for some time.

"Dead rubber", under-manned squad, weak forward line, Marconi players claiming rights to a Grand Final before they get there......when will these people learn. Dont write the Zebras off come finals time.

To KP....up yours, and your continued demonstration of absolutely no soccer knowledge at all...just a dopey smug grin that appears to have gotten you on TV.

To JW....up yours, for writing us off and claiming the patient-build-up game perfected by City is "outdated"....I think most of Europe, and now Manfred Schaeffer disagree.

I am still on cloud nine.......what a game this soccer is!!!!
