Round 6 report by Nick Guoth
Marconi Fairfield 1 - Canberra Cosmos 0

This game can only be classified as a lucky win by the home side. They were in charge for about 15 minutes at the start of the game. After that, Marconi were on the defence throughout.

Very early in the game, Marconi put pressure on the Cosmos goal and at the 7th minute, Andrew Harper hit a fierce shot towards goal from the edge of the box. This was only parried by Mautone straight to Francis Awaritefe who easily put away the rebound.

Soon the weather changed with the rain starting to fall and with it, the game. The Cosmos starting put some pressure on their opponents and about half way through the second half had a rather justifiable penalty request turned down.

The dressing rooms were not a happy sight for either teams and the second half saw more of what transpired at the end of the first, that being a lot more pressure by the visitors. Unfortunately for them, there was to be no luck at all this time, and yet another mark in the loss column.

Towards the end, Marconi actually had a very clear chance to increase their lead, but a mis-understanding between two players at the crucial moment saw the shot/clearance go wide. Overall, this was a loss to the Cosmos, yet it showed an incredble spirit amongst the team, a team that deserved to go home with more than what they had achieved.
