1994-95 Season Round 20 Matches

Round 20 of the Australian NSL championship (games played 25-26/2/1995)

Sydney United 2	-	Wollongong City 1
(Tony Popovic 43) (Adrian Cervinsky 48)
(Manis Lamond 81)

SU : Kalac, Popovic, Kupresak, M Babic, Stanton, Moric (sent off 78),
Naumovski, Hristodoulou, Zdrilic (Petkovic 21), Milicic,
     Lamond (S Babic 89)

WC : Hughes, Murray, O'Shea, Bourke, Dihm, Cellini (Dimoski 65), Horsley,
Ricoy, Bradley (Middleby 80), Coveny, Cervinski

[Ante Milicic seems to be having some sort of revival after his lights dimmed
somewhat after the 1993 World Youth Championships. He didn't score today but
feel expertly to weasel a penalty which the Crows needed three kicks to
convert after Hughes saved the initial attempt. The Wolves struck right back
after halftime from a corner but Lamond was again there to finish the scoring
for the game. Moric played very well but was sent off after yellow cards
in the 35th and 78th minute, the latter a foul on Ricoy who has now had
opposing players sent off for fouls on him in 2 consecutive games.]

Melbourne SC 2	-	Brisbane Strikers	1
(Andrew Zinni 30, 62) (Alan Hunter 83)

MZ : Kourtis, Kuleski, Della Rocca, Trajkovski, Mazzini (Lazarevski 78),
Angelovski, Trajcevski, Tricarico, Jolevski, Ngata, Zinni

BS : Bolton, Stowell, Hunter, Zoricich, Wright, Phillips, Slater (Ditton 77),
Williams, Evans, Brown, T Cranney (S Cranney 61)

[Without Enes and Banini through suspension the Zebras were still too good for
the Strikers and if anything the score is a poor relection of the Zebras...
dare I say it...supremacy over the Strikers.]

Heidelberg United	2	-	Melbourne Knights	6
(Robert Despotovski 30) (Steve Horvat 2, 14)
(Peter Tsolakis 65) (Oliver Pondeljak 21)
					(Vinko Buljubasic 64)
					(David Cervinski 66)
					(Mark Viduka 75)

HU : Miller, Scott, Karapatsos, Watson, Georgiadis, Vasiliadis, Tsolakis,
Ardone (Koutos 78), Vlahos, Psarros, Despotovski (Zmugic 75)

MK : Juric, Horvat, Silic, D Cervinski, Buljubasic, Biskic, DeAmicis,
Pondeljak (Grganovic 45), Lapsansky, Spiteri, Viduka

[Good news for Heidelberg, they scored twice as many goals against the Knights
as they did in the corresponding round 7 fixture, however the Knights tripled
their total. Infact the only dampener on the KNights landslide was that Josip
Biskic is set to go to Malaysian side Selangor along with South Melbournes
Mehmet Durakovic in a $40000 transfer. Horvat again scored from a free kick
(looks like the Socceroos have found their free kick taker) and Viduka was
a constant threat scoring the 6th himself. Considering that after 5goals
some lunatics invaded the pitch to confront their own goalkeeper one wonders
whether it was wise to give them more grief :-).]

Morwell Falcons 2	-	Marconi-Fairfield	3
(John Markovski 2) (Matthew Bingley 33)
(Brian Bothwell 16) (Kimon Taliadoros 62)
					(Angelo Colombo 78)

MoF : Matassa, Parton, Miller, Canosa, Upton, Bothwell, Tapai, Spink
      Waddell (Stergioupoulos 86), Sevin, Markovski

MaF : Catlin, van Egmond, Gray, Bingley, Casserly, Harper, Colombo, Iocca,
Ortiz (Robertson 84), Harris (Soper 65), Taliadoros

[Marconi are a very odd side. Normally found at or near the top of the table
the club is in strange surroundings. Yet they offer a great show of
determination and fight back from 2-0 down to score 3 beautiful goals. Colombo
redeemed himself with the match winner after criticism of his juggling the
ball in the penalty area which lead to a goal in the previous round.]

Parramatta Eagles	1	-	West Adelaide 3
(Glenn Gwynne 5) (Pablo 'Elvis' Cardozo 7)
					(Robbie Hooker 10 pk)
					(Cyrille Ndongo-Keller 27)

PE : Franken, P Souris, Ciantar, Gwynne, Orlic, Renaud (Haythornthwaite 24),
G Souris, Brayshaw (sent off 85), Sprod, Reda (Gilbert 62), Gunning

WA : Blazincic, Hooker, Slager, Haniotis, Andrioli, Tibaldi, Slifkas, Cardozo,
     Aloisi (Alagich 68), Iriarte, Ndongo-Keller (Brazzale 77)

[A Gwynne header from a corner gave the Eagles the early lead but a deflected
free kick from the King and a somewhat questionable penalty saw the Sharks
take the lead. After the break the 'even-up' penalty was awarded but
Blazincic made a great save. The loss left Eagles coach Rasic lamenting
playmaker Mendez's absence through injury "Without Mendez it's like
Argentina without Maradona". I contend it is like Argentina without
Maradona, Redondo, Batistuta, Ruggeri, MacAllister...you get the picture.]

Adelaide City 1	-	South Melbourne 3
(Damien Mori 31) (Ivan Kelic 5, 70)
					(Paul Trimboli 84)

AC : Petkovic, Ivanovic, Vidmar, Tobin, Melta, Foster, Mullen, Gibson,
     Talladira (Goutzioulis 74), Hassell, Mori

SM : Mautone, Kuzmanovic, Muscat, Valkanis, Anthopoulos, Polak, Petersen,
Boutsianis (Lucchetta 74), Panopoulos, Kelic, Trimboli

[The result was news enough but the real drama was behind the scenes. Socceroo
captain Paul Wade requested a transfer after he was continually left out of
the starting lineup and was told he did not fit into coach Arok's plans. To
add to that Socceroo defender Mehmet Durakovic has been transferred to
Malaysian side Selangor for a fee of $130000. Durakovic will be released
for all Socceroo games and is nearing the end of his career (Wade's is
close to over) however his experience will be missed and given his groin
injury is healed he will give Selangor good service.]
