1994-95 Season Round 17 Matches

Round 17 of the Australian NSL championship (games played 3-5/2/1995)

Marconi Fairfield	0	-	Sydney United 1
					(Ante Milicic 71)

MF : Pogliacomi, Casserly, Gray, Holst, Bingley, Talay, Robertson, Smith
     Corica, Harper, Taliadoros (Iocca 66)

SU : Kalac, Popovic, Kupresak, M Babic, Stanton, Moric, Hristodoulou, Milicic,
Naumovski (Petkovic 72), Bilokapic (Zdrilic 68), Lamond

[A strong United defence held out an improved Marconi side and Tony Popovic
who has been called into the Socceroo lineup against Colombia to replace
the injured Mehmet Durakovic had a major hand in the goal, unleashing the
shot which Pogliacomi pushed to Milicic's feet.]

Brisbane Strikers	2	-	West Adelaide 2
(Brisbane win 5-3 on penalties)
(Chris Zoricich 2, 4) (Cyrille Ndongo-Keller 22)
					(Robbie Hooker 26)

BS : Bolton, Jackson, Stowell, Hunter, S Cranney, Zoricich, Phillips,
Evans (Slater 81), T Cranney, Brown, Wright

WA : Blazincic, Hooker, Slager, Haniotis, Lazaridis, Slifkas, Andrioli,
     Cardozo (Aloisi 59), Keramidas, Ndongo-Keller (Kokkinoplitis 89),
     Iriarte

[Brisbane got off to a dream start when ex-Kiwi international Zoricich struck
twice and, in keeping with the allusion, went to sleep. West Adelaide took
advantage and though Brisbane had oppertunites to seal the win they contrived
to miss about three clear chances on goal in the second half.]

Adelaide City 0	-	Heidelberg United	0
(Heidelberg win 8-7 on penalties)

AC : Petkovic, Ivanovic, Vidmar, Tobin, Melta , Foster (Gibson 76),
Mullen (Goutzioulis 85), Talladira, Lozanovski (sent off 27), Hassell,
     Mori

HU : Miller, Watson, Koutos (sent off 85), Scott, MacNicol, Tsolakis,
Karapatsos (Psarros 46), Georgiadis, Ardone, Gnjidic, Vlahos

[After some fine performances Adelaide City are really struggling and I
can't quite decide why. Lozanovsi elbowed Georgiadis to be sent off and
Koutos went late in the game for a second yellow card. Some excellent
goalkeeping denied any regular time goals. John Gibson had the misfortune
of having the penalty saved to give the extra point to the Bergers.]

Melbourne Knights	1	-	Parramatta Eagles	0
(David Cervinski 65)

MK : Juric, Horvat, Buljubasic (Z Markovski 84), D Cervinski, De Amicis,
Tiatto, Lapsansky, Biskic, Silic (Grganovic 88), Spiteri, Viduka

PE : Franken (Holmes 76), G Souris, Gwynne, Sprod, Revely, Ciantar, Reda,
     Mendez, Renaud, Gunning, Brayshaw

[The Knights get back on the winning road and retake top spot on the ladder
with a header by the defender David Cervinski. Soon after Tony Franken had
to leave the field with a hip injury suffered while being challenged by
 Joe Spiteri.]

South Melbourne 3	-	Wollongong City 1
(Vaughan Coveny og 40) (Adrian Cervinski 51)
(Con Boutsianis 42)
(Ivan Kelic 84)

SM : Mautone, Davidson, Kuzmanovic, Durakovic, Muscat, Polak, Petersen,
Boutsianis, Trimboli, Kelic, Awaritefe (Panopoulos 30)

WC : Hughes, Murray (sent off 78), O'Shea (Bonetig 45), Bourke, Dihm,
Horsley, Bradley, Dimoski (Middleby 45), Cellini, Coveny, A Cervinski

[Vaughan was a little unlucky to have an own goal counted against him when a
Boutsianis drive flew into a cluster of defenders and came off Coveny.
Boutsianis was more emphatic when he shot underneath the diving Brett Hughes
for his second. This came after Awaritefe was stretchered off with a
suspected fracture in his arm after a heavy collision with the Wolves
defence. Cervinski scored after Middleby salvaged a rebound off the post from
his own shot but Souths sealed the game with Kelic's strike on the second
 attempt.]

Sydney Olympic 2	-	Melbourne SC 3
(Paul Della Rocca og 15) (Joe Tricarico 20)
(Brad Maloney 70) (Andrew Zinni 49)
					(Harry Ngata 70>x>49)

SO : Gibson, Spyridakos, Juric, Sorras (Augerinos 68), Barrett, Maloney,
Meredith (Milosevic 58), Tsekenis (sent off 83), Johnson, Bacak, Smith

MZ : Kourtis, Kuleski (sent off 84), Della Rocca, Jolevski, Karkaletsis,
Enes (Angelovski 74), Trajkovski, Emmanuelle, Ngata, Zinni (Bichler 80),
     Tricarico

[Olympic coach Vince Estavillio said that he would resign if his team lost
this game. True to form he offered it and the board will consider it this
week but are expected to reject it. Olympic got off to a lucky start as
a shot was pushed into the back of Della Rocca by the diving keeper and
bounced over the line. The sides were reduced by a man each late in the game
when Tsekenis was sent off for a rash tackle and Kuleski for his second yellow
and Olympic almost snatched a draw but succumbed to the Zebras who are
 on something of a streak.]
