1994-95 Season Round 3 Matches

Round 3 of the Australian NSL championship (games played 5-6/11)

Sydney Olympic 0	-	Sydney United 2
                                        (David Zdrilic 52, 71)

SO : Gibson, Spyridakos, Meredith (Juric 70), Sorras, Barrett, Milosevic,
Tsekenis, Maloney (Tome 73), Johnson, Bacak, Poimer

SU : Kalac, Popovic, Kupresak, M Babic, Stanton, Petkovic, Hristodoulou,
Moric, Naumovski, Lamond (Milicic 46), Zdrilic (Z Babic 87)

[Well United got their first win and it was won against an enterprising
Olympic playing a 4-3-3 formation. Once Youth International Milicic came
on for United the United attack looked much stronger. Sadly this game is
in the news for the wrong reasons as fights between mindless United and
Olympic fans led to an exchange of plastic seating and bricks via airmail
and required hopitalisation for at least one fan. Arseholes.]

Adelaide City 3	-	Melbourne SC 0
(Craig Foster 50)
(Tony Vidmar 59)
(Brad Hassell 61)

AC : Petkovic, Ivanovic, Yates, Tobin, Vidmar, Foster (Gibson 70),
Mullen (Melta 45), Talladira, Lozanovski, Hassell, Mori

MZ : Gonzales, Kuzmanovic, Jolevski (Mazzini 76), Della Rocca (sent off 55),
     Kuleski, Trajkovski, Trajcevski, Aloisi, Banini,
     Emmanuelle (Tricarico 76), Ngata

[The champions are looking quite strong despite their offseason losses.
The added incentive of beating the 'Zebra impostors' probably helped
too. Actually scoring the first goal from a headed throw-in sounds more
like shot defence than a concerted attack, also Della Rocca's dismissal
for a second yellow card was a great help in the difficult conditions
 (ie. strong wind, driving rain).]

Melbourne Knights	3	-	West Adelaide 0
(Joe Spiteri 20, 38, 53)

MK : Juric, Horvat, Kovacevic, D Cervinsky, Buljubasic, Silic, Lapsansky,
Biskic (A Cervinski 72), Tiatto, Spiteri, Viduka

WA : Blazincic, Hooker, Tibaldi, Haniotis, Slager, Lazaridis, Andrioli,
Pablo 'Elvis lives and he's playing soccer in Australia' Cardozo,
     Kokkinoplitas, Ndongo-Keller (Slifkas 45), Iriarte (Brazzale 73)

[The Knights winning was not so much of a surprise, Viduka not scoring was
a big surprise. The country-wide winds and rain also affected this match,
and a 'fired up' Spiteri feasted on a lacklustre effort by the Sharks. A
late injury to striker Iriarte, knee cartilage, really dented the West
Adelaide sides hopes for the season.]

South Melbourne 3	-	Morwell Falcons 3
(Francis Awaritefe 50, 62) (John Markovski 19, 52)
(Paul Trimboli 92) (Brian Bothwell 65)
(Morwell win 6-5 on penalties)

SM : Mautone, Petersen, Muscat, Valkanis, Hasler, Wade,
Vrbanjac (Goutzioulis 61), Polak (Awaritefe 45), Boutsianis, Trimboli,
     Kelic

MF : Matassa, Douglas, Canosa, Miller, Parton, Tapai (Stergioupoulos 90),
Waddell, Sevin, Bothwell, Markovski (Upton 90), Armstrong

[You know I'm beginning to see what Eddie Thomson sees in John Markovski,
mind you if he can't play like this more consistently then there's no
point is there. Frankly the Falcons should have won, despite Awaritefes
undoubted efforts the Souths goals were lucky and/or scrappy. The Morwell
goals were beautiful and Sonny Sevin almost made the best goal ever scored
in the history of all mankind. Anyway it was Ivan Kelic's penalty miss which
gave Morwell the extra point in the shootout. National captain Paul Wade
also managed to miss another penalty. At least he scored against Canada.]

Marconi-Fairfield	1	-	Parramatta Eagles	2
(Angelo Colombo 12) (Brendon Renaud 17 pk)
					(Andrew Brayshaw 75)

MF : Catlin, Dee, van Egmond, Gray, Casserly, Talay, Okon, Colombo,
de Marigny (Gomez 80), Soper, Taliadoros

PE : Franken, Souris, Sprod, Gwynne, Orlic, Ciantar, Renaud, Mendez, Falzon,
     Brayshaw (Reveley 86), Reda

[I just wish everyone would stop mentioning that Colombo used to play for
AC Mil....d'uh! Well Andrea Icardi is still using teething problems with
the new zonal system as an excuse for losing games and when Parramatta
aren't getting players sent off themselves they moan about others not being
sent off. In this case Catlin brought down Reda for the penalty, Catlin
was suitably unimpressed by the Eagles lack of sportsmanship as they crowded
the ref and demanded a red card. He gave a yellow, if it was to spite the
 Parramatta players....good.]

Brisbane Strikers	2	-	Wollongong City 0
(Brad Ditton 35)
(Craig Williams 42)

BS : Bolton, Jackson, Zoricich, Stowell, Williams, T Cranney, Phillips,
Ditton (Wright 80), Evans, S Cranney, Brown (Slater 75).

WC : Hughes, O'Shea, Forshaw, Bourke, Troth (Cellini 30),
Sterjovski (Halpin 59), Horsley, Bradley, Dimosky, Coveny, Akers

[Let's face it Wollongong sucks. Brisbane should have scored 5 but didn't
because they let them off the hook.]
