Spirit v Syd Utd

Round 18 report by Julian Farrell
Northern Spirit v Sydney United

If only you knew what did happen tonight!!?? Two guys in Croat national shirts camped themselves right next to our small but vocal Bob Stand group.

We scored from the penalty spot early in the second half. Then suddenly from outside the ground came this orange smoke flare. It landed right in front of us, so as to look as though we had done it.

I made every effort to tell security about it, as our two chequered-shirted ones quietly walked alongside the police so as to look innocent. They had smug expressions on their faces and made comments about our 'illegal' flagpoles. Obviously they were there as scouts for their buddy outside! A guy in a black t-shirt was seen running down the street behind the ground. I ran up to the fence as he ran away from the ground. It was so goddam obvious it was one of them. Funnily it was one of flares they DIDN'T light on Friday.

With Spirit players arguably not having been paid over the last couple of weeks, this is the last thing our club needs.

I'm spewing the bastard Vultures would stoop so low as to do that. But considering they live 5 minutes down the road, it is not surprising.

It is just that we have no concrete proof that it was them.

BASTARDS!

The game, well it was very very sad. Spirit won, which is nice. We had a bit of a singsong behind the goals, which was fun. But it is very very sad to see a Sydney derby be such a lowlight. Forza is right on the money. Marconi have totally forgotten the footballing department. Their "supporter shop" has never been emptier, with only 3 or 4 various supporter items, nearly all in kids sizes. No home shirts, no flags, no posters, NOTHING. There are huge new facilities for people into playing pinball games. The pokie area is without peer anywhere. Yet despite the rather trite banners in the club advertising their Friday night fixtures, it is quite obvious that the club feels that money is better spent on areas other than the football team. At $10 a ticket, it is obvious that there is more money in the pinballs, food and pokies. It is just sad that a great traditional club in Australia is as sick as this, despite our taunts as anyone who would listen tonight.

Marconi have the best facilities in the league. A sumptuous club (dodgy pizza though!). But when you consider that a club where apathy has led to basically nothing (no supporters group, no singing fans, taped songs over the loudspeakers, and a good percentage of the ground wandering around with friends completely obvious to the match), it is debatable whether they should keep things going.

We won, Spirit have won 2 in a row. But from a footballing perspective, the fair on show was disheartenly poor. Still, McAllister looked decent. Ferguson is an overweight twat.

The Rangers supporters club are wankers too. One bloke with a Northern Irish accent even had the temerity to deride the fare as "utter shite". Well you own 49% of this club, so what are you doing about it fellas! It is nice to know your commitment to my club knows no bounds.
