Syd Utd v Stallions

Round 11 report by Fred Legget
Sydney United v Marconi-Fairfield

There was an old joke that the Maryhill Magyars, aka Partick Thistle, were actually known to a lot of people as 'Partick Thistle Nil,' as this was the message that televison/radio score information always gave...

Well, goodybye Partick Thistle..hello Marconi Stallions Nil.

I'm just back form Edensor Park, where another..well..shite display has seen us go down 2-0 to our neighbours.

I'm not in the habit of making excuses (usually there are too many witnesses) and I'll leave that for Raul Blanco.

But I *will* be pissed off, if I pick up a paper tomorrow and read once again "I thought we moved the ball well, it was just that once again we couldn't score, and injuries didn;t help"

Going 1-0 down to a penalty that I thought Dominc Longo needn't have conceded set the predicatble scene.

Marconi would get the ball, knock it about, play it back, then punt it up the park for it to be intercepted by United.

And on and on and on.

Michael Turnbuyll pulled off a good save form a 20 yarder in teh second half, while the Marconi defence stood motionless as United followed up to net the rebound.

I should say at this point that I owe Tony Perinich an apology.

I have accused him of two things before.

One of not being fit to wear a Marconi jersey, and secondly not tyring hard enough.

I take the bit back about not trying, he did ,in fact, try very hard.

However, the fact that he continues to get a game when he is just so awful, is not his fault, and surely the blame for playing such a non contributor rests squarely with the coaching staff.

I mean, if I was playing, I would do my best, but surely the fault for playing me would not rest with me, but the coaching staff who pick the team.

Dominc Longo was substituted at half time, and replaced by Mark Babic.

9 minutes later big Bubba was himself substituted due to what looked liek a hamstring injury, and I worry that his career may be in doubt, given that this was his return game after long term injuries.

So, we're shite and we know we are..but what is worrying is that I don;t think there is a damn thing anyone can do about it..our goose is cooked!

I said last week that I didn;t hink we'd ever score again this season wihtout Joe Spiteri..and I mean it!

And finally, the charge of $20 for this type of "entertainment' will NOT, I repeat, NOT bring the fans back to Edensore Park..well not me anyway!!
