Cosmos v Knights

Round 18 report by Chris Kunz
Canberra Cosmos v Melbourne Knights

Paid Crowd: 1,959 Children under 17 were admitted free and not counted.

On another wet night (yet again!), Bruce Stadium welcomed its least competent visitor so far this season. Still, though dominating early play, when they couldn't score despite being given hectares of room the Cosmos allowed another (yet again!) former Canberra junior player - Susa - to open the scoring against them.

The first half was a pretty terrible advertisement for our football, but Sermanni obviously lashed the home side at half time and they came out fired up for a much better second. Knights had a goal disallowed later in the half, but the deserved penalty was slotted away surperbly by De Jesus - a much bandaged but needed second half sub.

From then on Canberra came close on a number of occasions, but even ACT Chief Minister, Kate Carnell, who I spoke to as we walked to our cars afterward, agreed this was an opponent Cosmos should have beaten.

Canberra have now gone 3 games undefeated (is that close to a record Andrew Howe?) but more was expected from them tonight.
