Souths v Carlton

Round 12 report by David Arnold
South Melbourne v Carlton SC

am near-paralytic but will endeavour to add my comments where [in]appropiate...

After today, if they kick out one of carlton and souths, their fucked in the head. We may have all of 500 supporters but every one of us sings from here to hell and back.

It is a great, great pity that owing to some competition in Brasil we and souths wont' me up again til March. First time I feel like thanking Adelaide Sharks for anything.

Souths still have a few problems to resolve. Perhaps better crowd security could be practicised, given the fact Hellas fans have some near-religious fervour in approahcing/abusing Carlton supporters.

I was disappointed with their conduct in general - some idiot threw beer over us before the game even started, then a well-known troublemaker from souths had to be restrained near the end from attacking the Carlton contingent.

I was with a group of 20 or so Carlton supporters, about .5 hours after the game, we were waiting outside the Player's entrance for them to appear. The refs were the first to appear, needing a police escort. Deano appeared next but didn't need an escort. Then Slater, Lapansky, then the rush. Jonesy was last?, needed a police escort to take him to the car park. no bottle thrown just outside the entrance, but the carpark as I understand it was an entirely different story.

Maybe they get tired of singing "Hellas" over and again and desire to see how the grass is greener from the other side...

Legends are born of this and Souths vs Carlton I hestitate to say but is legenderary enough anyway.

Tony D'Alfonso reckons Carlton should play out of Bob Jane and you cannot disagree with him. It's just frigging perfect and when the new grandstand goes up it WILL be the no.1 venue in Melb..

I canna describe it. played like shit for 80 minutes then who pops up but Stabber to send us delirious. We stayed up on the north grandstand for about 20 minutes after the match going through our songbook.

Lozza got sent off for a poor tackle, then presumably got another yellow card for mouthing off. Just before half-time. Slim brought the ball up in the second half, Panopolous was dodgging him and Slim throws the arm and got the red.

Think it was Panopoulos with the perfect short hooked cross that Curjica met easily. Jonesy, going for a ball in the area, was hauled back by Orlic/Liparotti (always get them mixed up) and Stabber converted the penale.

I think it was Lapansky who dove like Ginola jus outside the box. Lennie, incosistent all game, awarded us a free. It was tapped by Lapansky to Jonesy, who'se shot/cross/bugger was controlled and shot home by Marth. Offide, Souths claimed but who cares?

Just pure effing bedlam in the Carlton section, noone could believe it. When was the last time a team came back from 0-1 down to beat Souths in 10 minutes?

we were singing "croatia" in the bar afterwards... just something you really had to be there (in reference to events of last week at Sunshine)

Thank you Souths, thank you Carlton, thank you Melbourne for yet another unforgettable game. I wish Souths all the best in Brasil and hope they collect a scalp or two.

"It doesn't get any better than this" - KC in the bar.
