Marconi v Kingz

Round 11 report by Bonita Mersiades
Marconi-Fairfield v Football Kingz

Having not seen a match for a couple of weeks due to a combination of illness and work commitments, we travelled the 90km round trip to watch the Marconi v KingZ match last night.

Here are a few comments.

First, Ross [Musso], you still can't understand a word the ground announcer is saying because of the extent of feedback on those speakers. He may as well have been speaking Swahili for all one can understand on the eastern side of the ground.

Second, I can't imagine what the Marconi players thought they were doing or where they were. Not only did they look as if they couldn't play, but they also looked as if they couldn't care less. Not at 1 goal down; not at 2 goals down; not even at 3 goals down. For the first time in my life, I wanted to leave early - just like all the Marconi supporters did. However, we endured until the end, and there were very few people left in the eastern stand.

Third, Fred and his gang deserve an encouragement award.

Fourth, the announcer's coaxing of the crowd (not that I know what he said, but I expect it was something like "Come on Marconi") and the "We will rock you" music are just awful. But I admit I'm old-fashioned when it comes to things like this.

Fifth, well done with the program. It has some useful information in it, and it looks professional. (Grant - I'll send it to you).

Sixth, the Kingz' goals were well-taken even if one was a goal keeping error.

Seventh, I think we should all be very, very, very worried about the standard of the NSL this season. It has got much worse, in my view.

Finally, it was a LOVELY SYDNEY EVENING - ALMOST PERFECT FOR FOOTBALL but, in hindsight, I should have stayed home and had a BBQ.
