Spirit v Marconi

Round 10 report by Fred Leggett
Northern Spirit v Marconi-Fairfield

Spirit rescued their season .. once again by beating Marconi at NSO.

A cracking match I thought, what derby football is all about, with a magnificent 25 yarder from Moss(?) being the only goal of the game.

A game which probably sent both sets of fans home happy...Spirt fans because they won, and Marconi fans because they felt they definitely *should* have won.

I have never witnessed a Marconi side play as well as they did...but get beat!

JoOhn Perosh was voted man of the match...but good as he was, Spirit fans will forgive me if I say that I thought Spirit's main contender was " their right hand post!"

Maloney hit it in the first half with a header...and in the second half in the space of a couple of minutes two twenty five yarders crashed off it with Perosh well beat...

Marconi will rue their inability to finish Spirit off in the first and second half ...Zoric certainly should have scored after rounding the goalie..but to save someone from stating the obvious...fitba is about scoring goals and not going close....Spirit did, we didn't...

So, an enjoyable night despite the result....good to meet up with a couple of Spirit fans (I won't name you lest you get thrown out of the club for associating with the likes of me..8-)

Only sour points were the confiscation of the Marconi kids plastic horns by over zealous security guards at the gate....and a strange instruction from the same security guards to take down a couple of innocuous banners/flags on the basis that "Soccer Australia doesnt allow flags that size"....bollox, but not to worry.

Full marks to Spirit for a backs to the wall performance....Graham Arnold making a surprise recall too.......but I reckon the structural engineers better check out that right hand post in the morning....

Oh and if I can have a small whinge..teh beer is overpriced...tha might explain why GKW stocked up on 38 schooners on the harbour before he hit NSO...

He was last seen insisting on 'having a couple more' as he headed inside the Marconi club......he certainly needed them!!
