Cosmos v Kingz

Round 32 report by Chris Kunz
Canberra Cosmos v Football Kingz

The Turks had only recently departed the field of battle (defeated narrowly by two ACT Rockets) when the ANZAC friends of long standing fought for pride.

Rufer, brave and elegant, stood like a lone pine in amongst a party of picnicing locals to head home a Kiwi raid. It looked just like another defeat after a win for the Aussies... but then...

When de Jesus infiltrated the Kiwi left flank and rifled home past the Duke's right this was more than a warning shot that the Kingz first season of foreign forays was close to a mortal close.

Each force threw itself into a second period to grab the victory, with the Aussies, time and again rattling the framework of the Kiwi bunkers when a more accurate finish seemed certain.

Then, with 11 minutes to sundown, de Jesus rose once more after Easter, lobbing a handgrenade exquistely into the Kingz quarters - when others would have wheeled up the heavy artillery for a big straight blast.

The Cosmos delivered the knockout blow to the Kingz season and in doing so were victorious for the second time in a row - something they had not acheived since their national debut... in the Boer War!
