Champions, premiers and relegations
APIA Leichhardt were crowned 1987 National Soccer League Champions
Sydney City withdrew after one round - result and details of match played in round one (W2-0 v Sydney Olympic) annulled and excluded from NSL records.
St. George were crowned 1987 National Soccer League Premiers after defeating APIA Leichhardt 4-0 in the Post Season Grand Final - note that the post season matches did not count for the Championship
APIA Leichhardt, Preston Makedonia, St. George, Marconi and Sydney Croatia contested the Post season top five series
Heidelberg United were relegated to the 1988 Victorian State League competition
Following the round one withdrawal of Sydney City the league continued with 13 teams over 24 rounds of matches
