Gold Coast 1997 other matches

Written by Greg Stock and Tony Moran (The Farr Post editor).

On Wednesday June 4th 1997, an interesting match took place on the Gold Coast. The New Zealand national side played a one-off friendly match against a Gold Coast representative side. The All Whites were on their way up to Port Moresby for a World Cup qualifier and were using the game as an oppurtunity to gain some practise against some reasonable opposition. Unfortunately for the crowd the game was a little dour and saw no goals scored in an easily fogettable contest. The Gold Coast side featured Gary Philips from the Brisbane Strikers as a guest player. New Zealand went on to lose the Papua New Guinea game 1-0.
