1960 proved a quiet year on the international tour front, due in no small part to the suspension of the Australian Soccer Football Association by FIFA for breaches of international transfer regulations. As a result, foreign clubs were effectively banned from touring Australia during the duration of the ban, which lasted until 1963. Other than a two-match series between Western Australia and South Australia on the Easter weekend, the key event of the year was the Interstate Carnival. Staged over three successive days in Melbourne and played exclusively at Olympic Park, Victoria were joined by New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia, the hosts claiming wins in all three of their group matches to take the honours.
