Australia v Philippines report by FFA

Australia 7 - Philippines 0

Westfield Matildas have defeated the Philippines in an impressive 7-0 win, in the ASEAN Football Federation Championships being held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

This makes it two wins from two games for the Westfield Matildas.

Played in humid conditions with a slight breeze, it was an action packed game throughout the entire 94 minutes.

Australia scored its first goal in the 34th minute when Rollason tapped the ball over the keeper. This was followed up two minutes later when Tristram neatly chipped the ball from 15 metres out.

In the second half the Westfield Matildas young talent truly shined.

In the 53rd minute Chapman fought well to hang onto the ball, put a cross to Rollason in the centre, who scored to the top right corner.

With Chapman and Uzunlar off and Balomenos and Sykes on in the 65th minute, the tempo picked up another notch.

Balomenos sent a neat ball behind defence and Sykes raced through with a low angled shot from the right in the 69th minute, giving Sykes her first international goal.

Another substitution in the 76th minute saw Colthorpe replace Spence, and Tristram scored again in the 81st minute.

In the 86th minute Balomenos collected and provided a solid finish, only to score another just five minutes later with a low angled finish from right 15 metres out.

Coach, Alistair Edwards, said Australia’s approach play was excellent but he thought the finishing could be better, especially in the first half.

"We should have been more clinical in the early stages - we could have been 3-0 up after five minutes.

"As the game settled our ball speed and movement picked up considerably, and in the end it was a thoroughly convincing performance.

"It is challenging playing a team that stacked their defence, but this is good for our overall development," said Edwards.

Australia's next match will be against Singapore on Monday at 6.00pm local time (10.00pm AEDT).
