North Korea v Australia by AWSA

North Korea 0 - Australia 0

The Australian Women's Soccer Team were disappointed to record another scoreless draw against North Korea in the second match of their three-test series in Pyongyang this evening.

Australia's 'Matildas' dominated the match throughout and created numerous clear chances on goal but failed to find the target.

Both sides then struggled as monsoonal rain and strong winds marred the second half.

"The players and I are disappointed with the result today," said National Coach Greg Brown. "We were the better side with better chances but we failed to put them away. The one positive was that we kept a clean sheet. The main thing now is to bounce back and win the next match."

Australia looked sharp and comfortable on the ball despite the physical play of the quick North Korean side. A crowd of 15,000 spectators had come to the National Stadium to witness the midweek fixture.

A Cheryl Salisbury long throw-in was flicked on by Joanne Peters, but Katrina Boyd's volleyed attempt was saved on the line by the Korean goalkeeper. Other first half strikes from Peters, Sunni Hughes and Julie Murray also failed to produce the elusive goal.

Australia's defence held firm with the wind against them after the break. Keeper Belinda Kitching performed well to stave off the slippery ball as North Korea moved into attack.

Substitute Sharon Black came close to finishing a perfect Boyd through ball, but there was more frustration as the ball flew wide.
