The Qantas Matildas have been defeated 2-0 by China in their second and final international match played in Tianjin overnight.
A goal either side of half time ensured victory for the home team who exacted revenge for the Qantas Matildas 2-1 win in the first match on Saturday. The match, which was played in humid and wet conditions, attracted a 7,000-strong crowd despite being covered live on local television.
The Australians were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities throughout the match with Alicia Ferguson and Jo Peters both striking the crossbar.
The Qantas Matildas went into the match missing key players in captain Cheryl Salisbury and midfielder Sally Shipard, and were further hampered during the game when Dianne Alagich and Karla Reuter left the field to take the injured list to four.
The Australian striking duo of Lisa de Vanna and Kate Gill caused the Chinese defence headaches throughout the first half with Ferguson's looping shot after 20 minutes hitting the frame of the goal.
China scoring their first two minutes into injury time at the end of the first half when Zhang fired a shot in from the edge of the penalty area.
China doubling their advantage 11 minutes after the interval when Han scored with a close range header.
Peters struck the crossbar with a 25 metre drive virtually from the restart but it was the closest the Australians came to getting on the scoresheet.
The Qantas Matildas now travel to Japan for an international on Saturday and then to Korea for two further matches.
China will host the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2008 Olympic Games.
