Clayton Inter merged with Box Hill at the conclusion of the 1991 season to form Box Hill Inter. Members from the original Clayton club were disgruntled when Box Hill Inter merged to form what is now known as the Bulleen Zebras in 1996. These members broke away to form the club Clayton, which first competed in the Victorian Amateur Competition in 1997. The club disbanded prior to the beginning of the 2007 season.
